The Region
Douro River
Casa Cimeira is close to the Douro River. A masterpiece of nature and human effort, the Douro Valley is above all a river, vineyard, grandiose landscape and millenary history. Successive waves of people, of different cultures and beliefs, populated this region with a hot and dry climate, nestled at the foot of the Marão and Montemuro Mountains.
In the lacework of the surrounding landscape, they left cave paintings, forts, menhirs and dolmens and built sidewalks, Roman bridges, medieval castles, monasteries and churches of all styles and architectures. In the dust of time, legends and traditions of the foundation of the nationality were immortalized in these places, scrolls of old charters, epic narratives of the struggles of Christians and Moors, stories of fortunes and misfortunes from the winemaking epic.
